Focus is on indepth, challenging exercises using fishbowl and racial caucus formats. Participants also demonstrate an understanding of three fundamental anti-oppression constructs: the table of oppression, the cycle of oppression and the fabric of oppression. Mini-lectures frame these concepts reinforced by experiential exercises to deepen learning. A mixed race team leads the retreat. Two one-day followup sessions build on participants' personal social justice journey and address individual and institutional strategies and tactics for eliminating the achievement gap. participating in BOTH the Leadership and Racism Institute Sessions expand and deepen the Program retreat with more focus on implications for school strategies and actions and tools for addressing institutional racism.
